Intellectual Property Intellectual Property BioMarck Pharmaceuticals has licensed the “MARCKS technology” on a worldwide exclusive basis from North Carolina State University. The technology includes therapeutic peptides and their analogs for the treatment of respiratory diseases related to mucus hypersecretion and inflammation in diseases such as asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, and rhinitis and certain non-respiratory diseases. BioMarck has filed a series of United States and international patents that cover BIO-11006 and related peptide analogs. BioMarck has been granted four patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. The first allowed U.S. patent (7,524,926), entitled “Mucin Hypersecretion Inhibitors and Methods of Use”, will provide broad protection for BioMarck’s lead drug, BIO-11006 Inhalation Solution, as well as a series of additional first-in-class mucus inhibiting peptides. The second allowed U.S. patent (7,544,772), entitled “Methods for Regulating Inflammatory Mediators and Peptides useful Therein”, provides broad protection for another series of BioMarck’s anti-inflammatory peptides. The additional two U.S. patents (7,265,088 and 7,919,469), entitled “Methods and compositions for altering mucus secretion” provide extensive protection of the basic MARCKS technology originally developed by the North Carolina State University. These four recently granted patents will also provide broad protection of methods of treatment for a variety of pulmonary diseases involving mucus hypersecretion and airway inflammation. A number of the corresponding international patents are granted while an additional number of applications are still pending in various countries. BioMarck will continuously pursue an aggressive patent protection by expanding the current patent portfolio and by filing additional composition of matter patents. |
